December 10th marked the United Nations' adoption of the UDHR and Human Rights Day
Human Rights Day is celebrated on December 10 th worldwide
to commemorate the United Nations General Assembly’s adoption of the
Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) on Dec 10 , 1948 at the
Palais de Chaillot Paris.
The UDHR is a General Assembly declaration and part of the International Bill of Human Rights which consists of an additional two international treaties: the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (1966) and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (1966) with two Optional Protocols.
The UDHR document was drafted by representatives of various cultural
& regional backgrounds as a common standard of achievements for all
peoples and all nations. It sets out, for the first time, fundamental
human rights to be universally protected.
